SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team opened conference play on a strong note, shutting out Nicholls 2-0 on Thursday night before rallying in the second half to earn a 2-2 draw against Lamar on Sunday afternoon, keeping the Cardinals unbeaten in league action.
Game 1: UIW 2, NICH 0
Freshman Atiana Lara wasted no time, scoring what ended up being the game-winning goal 15 seconds into the match.
In the 78th minute, Montanna Mathews extended the Cardinals' lead with a goal from the top of the box.
Hannah Alexander recorded her third clean sheet as a Cardinal in the win, recording four saves in the conference opener.
Game 2: UIW 2, LU 2
Lamar jumped ahead early with a goal in the 20th minute. Three minutes into the second half, LU extended their lead to 2-0.
Seconds after Lamar added to their lead, the Red and Black cut into the deficit with a goal from Peri Olmo. In the 65th minute, Zara Dominguez found the back of the net to tie the match up at 2-2.
UIW is back in action Sunday, September 28th, at East Texas A&M University.
