Men’s Soccer Stays Hot After a Two-Win Week

SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team defeated #18 SMU on the road and came from behind to defeat UTRGV at home on Friday at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.   

  

Match 1: UIW 2, SMU 1  

  

Bryce Tober put the Cardinals on the board in the 14th minute with his first goal of the season. Diego Robles assisted Tober. UIW entered the half up 1-0.   

  

In the 79th minute, the ranked Mustangs got on the board to tie things up at 1-1.  

  

With just minutes left in the match, Giovanni Padilla found Noe Robles in the box. Robles converted the opportunity to give the Cardinals their highest-ranked win in program history.   

  

Alejandro De La Torre recorded eight saves in the win.  

  

Match 2: UIW 2, UTRGV 1  

  

The Red and Black found themselves in a 1-0 hole after the Vaqueros scored in the 12th minute.   

  

The Cardinals came roaring back from the second half, scoring goals in the 59th and 64th minutes. Juan Monrreal tied the match, and Tatenda Chigede recorded the game winner.  

  

De La Torre recorded six saves in the win.  

  

UIW is back in action on Monday against the University of Pittsburgh for their second road match of the season.
