ABILENE – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team went 2-1 on opening weekend of the 2025 season. The Cardinals lost in straight sets against Oklahoma on Friday but bounced back with wins over Abilene Christian University (ACU) and Missouri State University (MSU) on Saturday.

Match 1: OU (3), UIW (0)

Set 1: UIW 25 (0), OU 27 (0)

After leading for most of the set, ACU used a 7-0 run to pull ahead by one. The Wildcats were at match point, 24-22, but couldn't convert, which led to UIW tying things up. UIW secured the final two points and the set for the win.

Set 2: UIW 22 (1), ACU 25 (1)

The Cardinals and Wildcats played a tight set two, with neither team leading by more than four points. After UIW tied the set up at 22-22, ACU went on a 3-0 run to take the set and even things up.

Set 3: UIW 19 (1), ACU 25 (2)

The Wildcats wouldn't be denied in set three. Every time the Cardinals took a lead, ACU responded with a run to take a lead. The Wildcats ended the set on an 8-1 run to run away with set three.

Set 4: UIW 25 (2), ACU 18 (2)

Set 3: UIW 25 (2), MSU 18 (1)

Another late run by the Cardinals helped them win in set three. A late 5-0 run gave the Cardinals the cushion they needed to take the set and pull ahead 2-1.

Set 4: UIW 26 (3), MSU 24 (1)
