SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team split its first two matches of the season this past week. The Cardinals defeated the University of Pacific (UOP) 2-1 on Thursday and fell to Drake 2-1 on Sunday.
Game 1: UIW 1, UOP 0
The Red and Black scored its first goal of the 2025 campaign out of the corner with Giovanni Padilla connecting with Diego Robles in the box in the 22nd minute.
Keeper Alejandro De La Torre secured his first clean sheet of the season, finishing with four saves, while facing seven shots.
Game 2: UIW 1, DRAKE 2
The Cardinals found themselves down 2-0 entering halftime in their match against Drake.
Noe Robles gave UIW life in the 76th minute, finding the back of the net to pull within one, 2-1. The Cardinals netted an equalizer minutes after Robles scored. However, an offside call erased the goal, making the final score 2-1.
De La Torre surrendered two goals while recording six saves in the loss.
UIW is back in action on Thursday at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. against Gonzaga.
