SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team lost to Tarleton State University, 12-6, on Wednesday at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
The Cardinals took an early 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Jake Weaver.
Tarleton tied the game at 1-1 in the second on an RBI single.
The Texans took their first lead in the third on a two-run homer to go up 3-1.
In the fourth, Tyler Cowan brought the Cardinals within one, 3-2 on a sacrifice fly.
TAR immediately got that run back in the next half inning on a solo shot to extend the lead to 4-2.
After a scoreless sixth inning, the Texans scored three in the seventh, three in the eighth, and two in the ninth to take a 12-3 lead entering the home half of the ninth.
The Red and Black put up three runs in the ninth, bringing the final score to 12-6. Tony DeJesus drove in a run on an RBI single, and Thomas Lyssy and Gray Bane were hit by pitches with the bases loaded to drive in the game's final two runs.
UIW will host McNeese State this weekend at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
