HAMMOND, LA. - The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team dropped games two and three to SE Louisiana University, 6-4 and 5-1 at Pat Kenelley Diamond on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1: UIW 4, SLU 6
The Lions scored five runs in the first three innings to take a commanding 5-0 lead through three.
After Josh Salinas settled into the game, the Cardinals made it a game, scoring three in the sixth and one in the seventh to pull within one, 5-4
Rey Mendoza picked up where he left off, going the other way on a three-run homer in the sixth. In the seventh, Ryder Hernandez sent a deep fly ball over the left field wall to cut the SLU lead to 5-4.
In the home half of the seventh, SLU hit a solo shot, bringing the final score to 6-4.
Game 2: UIW 1, SLU 5
The Lions jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, scoring one in the first and two in the second.
After two scoreless innings, SLU scored a run in the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to 5-0.
Rob Liddington Jr. drove in the Cardinals' lone run of the game in the eighth on a sacrifice fly, bringing the final score to 5-1.
The Cardinals return home this upcoming week, hosting five games at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
