Dylan Hayman was nearly perfect in the first 20 minutes, knocking down three of his four shots from the field and making five of his six shots from the line.
Jordan Pyke was the other Cardinal to score in double figures with the bulk of his points coming from the free throw line, knocking down seven of eight. However, UIW only trailed for 32 seconds in the half and went into the break with a 34-31 lead.
The two Cardinals traded baskets, back and forth throughout the second half. With roughly eight minutes remaining in the game Illinois State took its third lead of the game thanks to a technical foul shot. The UIW Cardinals quickly retook the lead and remained in control of the game until a 6-0 Redbird run put ISU up 74-70.
Dylan Hayman hit a clutch three-pointer, making it a one possession game, but Illinois State was perfect from the line and UIW season finished with a 78-73 loss in the semifinal of the CBI Tournament.
