SAN ANTONIO—The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team is set to host the University of New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana University in two conference matchups. On Thursday, February 6, the Privateers and Cardinals tip off at 6:30 p.m.; on Saturday, February 8, SLU and UIW tip off at 1:00 p.m.
UIW
The Cardinals are in a three-way tie for third place in the league standings with an 8-4 conference record after sweeping last week's matchups, winning at UNO, at McNeese, and at home against HCU.
UIW is fourth in the conference with its 42 percent field goal percentage, knocking down 506 shots as a team.
Jorja Elliott continues to lead the Cardinals in scoring, averaging 10.4 points per contest. She has scored in double figures in 12 games, including a season-high 22 points against Northwestern State, earning herself SLC Player of the Week.
Freshman Brynn Lusby comes off the bench as the second leading scorer, adding 9 points per contest.
Forward Raimi McCrary is the leading rebounder, pulling down 6.1 per game. She's tallied 10-plus rebounds in four games this season, including two double-doubles.
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
The Cardinals defeated the Privateers the last time they faced off. Last Monday, UIW defeated UNO 58-55 in New Orleans.
The Cardinals lost to the Lions earlier this season, 66-42, in Hammond. The Lions enter the contest undefeated in conference play.
SCOUTING THE PRIVATEERS
UNO enters the contest on a three-game losing streak after losing to UIW, SFA, and SLU last week. The Privateers are currently 2-18 (2-9) and sit in twelfth place in the conference standings.
Nora Francois leads the Privateers in points averaging 13.6 per game.
Francois also leads UNO in rebounds and blocks. She's totaled 111 rebounds and 15 blocks so far this season.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
The Lions enter the contest on a 12-game winning streak after sweeping last week's matchups against HCU, Lamar, and UNO.
SLU sits in first place in the conference standings with an 18-3 (12-0) record.
Alexius Horne leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.2 points per game. Horne also leads the team in threes, averaging 3.0 attempts per game.
Jalencia Pierre leads the team in assists, totaling 4.1 per game. Pierre also averages 2.1 steals per game to lead the Lions.
