EDINBURG, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word football team lost to the UTRGV Vaqueros 28-56 on Saturday night.
Jalen Walthall had 220 yards on 10 catches and two touchdowns.
EJ Colson threw for 339 yards and added 61 more on the ground along with one rushing touchdown.
The Cardinals could not get anything going in the first half. With only a total of 88 yards and five first downs in two quarters UIW trailed 35-0 going into the break.
UIW came out of the locker room on fire, on just the second play of the third

Jalen Walthall on the right side of the field, Walt broke a few tackles and was off to the endzone for the first Cardinal score of the game.
The next time the ball was in his hands Colson was responsible for 54 of the 79 yards which was capped off with a 22-yard scramble for another TD. UIW's defense continued to stand strong, forcing a three-and-out, giving Colson and the Cardinal the ball once again. Walthall and EJ couldn't be stopped in the opening minutes of the third as the two linked up once again on a 54-yard pass and catch, setting UIW up in great field position. The drive was ended when
Harlan Dixon found his way into the endzone cutting the deficit to just two scores, 21-35.
UTRGV wouldn't be held to zero in the quarter and put seven on the board. The Cardinals went into the fourth with new life despite trailing 42-21.
Walthall picked up right where he left off in the fourth. After making a catch that moved the chains on 4
th & 10 Walt made a falling down catch while covered by two Vaqueros, keeping UIW in striking distance down 28-35.
The scoring would end there for the Cardinals and the Vaqueros added and few more as UIW ended the night with a 28-56 loss.
