Cardinal Football Competing at Home Against East Texas A&M

SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word football team returns from its one week bye to compete against East Texas A&M University at the Gayle & Tom Benson Stadium this Saturday, Oct. 18, at 4:30 p.m.

LIVE LINKS CARDINALS
  • The Cardinals begin drives more efficiently than any other team in the Southland. They lead the conference in total first downs (136) and have the most yards averaged on first down (22.7). This dominance continues in their fourth-down playbook, as they are tied for second in total fourth-down conversions (10).
  • The Cardinal's offensive playcalling continues to be efficient in the redzone, as they are tied for second in scoring on 19 of their 23 attempts in the opponent's scoring territory.
  • Going into Saturday's matchup at the Nest, UIW will look to bounce back after losing their first game at home since 2023 with a seventh consecutive win over East Texas A&M.
 
LAST TIME THEY MET
  • Last November, the Cardinals traveled to the Lions' home field and dominated with a two-score lead in a 38-24 win. UIW was four yards short of totaling 500 total scrimmage yards on away turf. 
  • The Cardinals lead the record against the Lions with a 6-0 record spanning over 15 years.

  • ETAMU sits in sixth place in the SLC with a 1-1 conference record (1-5 total).
  • They have a top-5 rushing offense in the conference with 10 touchdowns on the ground this season.
 
PLAYERS TO WATCH 
  • Freshman quarterback EJ Colson has been explosive through the air and on the ground. He is second behind running back Jaylon Spears with 160 rushing yards and is within the top 5 total passing yards in the SLC, along with being one of the most efficient passers in the FCS, completing 71% of his attempts.
  • The UIW receiving core continues to dominate the SLC despite last week's bye. Jameson Garcia and Chedon James are top-5 in receiving yards and combined for six touchdowns in six games.
  • Kicker Will Faris ties the most field goals made this season in the Southland with eight (88.9% FG)
