Women's Basketball Hosts Nicholls; Visits HCU

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball is set to host to Nicholls and visit HCU in two conference matchups. On Thursday, January 9 the Colonels and Cardinals tip off at 6:30 p.m. and on Saturday, January 11 the Huskies host UIW at 1:00 p.m.  
 
UIW 

The Cardinals sit in fifth place in the league standings with a 2-2 record following last week's losses to Lamar and SFA. 

UIW is fifth in the conference with its 32.5 percent 3-point shooting, knocking down 62 as a team this season. 

Jorja Elliott continues to lead the Cardinals in scoring, averaging 10.1 points per contest, scoring in double figures for seven games with a season-high 22 points against Northwestern State to earn herself SLC Player of the Week. 

Freshman Brynn Lusby comes off the bench as the second leading scorer, adding 8.8 points per contest. 

Forward Raimi McCrary is the leading rebounder, pulling down 6.2 per game. She's tallied 10-plus rebounds in three games this season, including two double-doubles. 

THE LAST TIME THEY MET  

The Colonels split last year's matchups against the Cardinals. UIW defeated Nicholls in Thibodaux, 52-47. Earlier in the season the Colonels beat UIW in San Antonio, 59-65.  

The Cardinals are currently on a three-game winning streak against HCU dating back to 2023.  

SCOUTING THE COLONELS 

Nicholls went 0-2 in conference play last week losing to ETAMU, 68-60 and losing to NWST 56-44. The Colonels are currently 8-5 (1-3) and sit in ninth place in the conference standings. 

Tanita Swift leads the Colonels in points averaging 16.4 per game.  

Swift also leads Nicholls in field goal percentage shooting 45.3% from the field. She's also averaging 2.2 steals per game.  

Emani Burks is averaging 1.5 blocks per game and 4.2 rebounds per game to lead the team.  

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES 

The Huskies have dropped its last three conference games after defeating ETAMU to start conference play. 

HCU sits in eleventh place in the conference standings following last week's losses to Lamar and SFA. 

Eric Maguire leads the team in scoring averaging 10.1 per game. Maguire also leads the team in assists and three-point percentage. 

Tiffany Tullis recently recorded her 100th rebound of the season to lead the team averaging 10.1 per game.
