BEAUMONT, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team fell to the Lamar Cardinals 72-58 in its second game on the road this week.
Davion Bailey and
Shon Robinson both scored 16 points and
Jalin Anderson added 10 in the loss.
The Cardinals fell behind early as Lamar jumped out to an 11-0 lead. Just as he has done all season
Davion Bailey knocked down a 3-pointer and got to the free-throw line to keep UIW in the game. While UIW was able to get back in gear on the offensive end Lamar was stretched their lead back to double digits.
That was until
Shon Robinson checked into the game. Robinson scored 10 points in as many minutes, hitting shots both in the paint and behind the arc. UIW quickly cut into the lead and after a Robinson 3-pointer the Cardinals were down by just one point, 28-29. The Lamar Cardinals closed on a 10-1 run and UIW went into the break down 30-39.
In the second half the Southland Conference second leading scorer, Bailey, came to life scoring nine of the 18 UIW points in the first 10 minutes of the second half. While UIW was able to match Lamar's pace for most of the second, in the end the Lamar's defensive pressure would prove to be too much as UIW fell to Lamar 72-58.
