EDINBURG, TX – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team took down the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (URGV) 2-1 on Saturday night, behind two
Sello Diphoko goals in the second half.
The Cards were active in the first half, racking up nine shots with three of them being on goal. They were able to stay disciplined on defense only committing one foul. On the other side of thing the Vaqueros committed 10 fouls. None of the free kicks amounted to any goals and the two teams headed in to the break tied at zero.
The second half was very different from the first. In the 62
nd minute Kgodiso Sukati broke the stale mate scoring for UTRGV. About 10 minutes later the Cardinals earned a corner kick. After the ball was sent in, it bounced around a few players before finding the foot of
Sello Diphoko and into the back of the net, tying the game. Less than three minutes later Sello once again found the back of the net giving the Cardinals the lead.
UIW was able to hold onto this lead in the final 15, earning their first win of the season.
