SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's volleyball team takes the short trip to UTSA for the UTSA Invitational. On Friday, the Cardinals take on Abilene Christian at 12:30 p.m. and Holy Cross at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, UIW closes out the tournament against the host Roadrunners at 2:00 p.m.   

UIW  

• The Cardinals started the season going 2-1 at the Bearkat Invitational. UIW picked up wins against Sam Houston State and PVAMU. 

• Risa Sena leads the Cardinals in kills with 30, while hitting .205 percent meanwhile Kade Thomas and Teyhlor Thomas lead the team with eight blocks. 

• Calissa Allison is in the top five in kills (27), assists (48), aces (3), digs (38), and blocks (2) for UIW. 

• Audrey Patton leads the Cardinal defense with 38 digs so far this season, and setting efforts are split between Allison and Anuhea Faitau with 48 assists each. 

• UIW was selected to finish eighth in the Southland Conference preseason poll but sits in sixth place.  

Scouting the Wildcats 

• ACU finished 1-2 in their first three games of the 2024 season at the Baylor Classic. 

• Hannah Gonzalez and Nieko Thomas started in all three matches and combined for 34 kills and 16 blocks. 

• The Wildcats were selected to finish sixth in the WAC preseason poll but sit in fifth place.  

Scouting the Crusaders 

• Holy Cross started their 2024 campaign 1-2 after winning their season opener against Siena. 

• Gracie Reisman posted a team-high 43 kills (3.07 K/S) off 82 total attacks for a .451 hitting percentage over three games. 

• The Crusaders are sixth in the Patriot League standings. 

Scouting the Roadrunners  

• The Roadrunners started the season 1-2 after dropping games against William & Mary and Old Dominion at the Quest for the Crown tournament. 

• Mia Sorensen was one of five players selected for American Conference preseason honors and currently leads the team with 27 kills while also adding 11 blocks. 

• Preseason polls have UTSA slated to finish seventh in the American Athletic Conference, but the team currently sits in 10th after last weekend.
