COMMERCE, TX – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team dropped its first conference matchup of the season against Texas A&M Commerce 3-2.
The Cardinals dominated set one, with 11 kills and six blocks, to win 25-16. Kyla Malone and Kade Thomas were a force at the net, both offensively and defensively.
In sets two and three, the Lions picked up two close sets, winning set two 25-22 and set three 25-19. In set four, UIW tied things up at 2-2 following a 25-18 win. The Cardinals could not get anything going in the final set, going down 7-0 before losing 15-6.
Risa Sena led UIW in kills with 14. Three Cardinals totaled more than five blocks; K. Thomas (8), Malone (7), and Teyhlor Thomas (7) accounted for 22 of the Cardinals' 26 blocks. Natalie Kimmel tallied 26 assists, and Alex Beauchamp added 14 digs.
UIW travels to Hammond to take on Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, September 28, at noon.
