SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team starts its 2024 regular season campaign on Thursday, August 15, at 7 p.m. against Tarleton State University at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium. On Sunday, UTSA plays host at Toyota Field as the Cardinals and Roadrunners face off in the Alamo City Showdown at the home of San Antonio FC at 6 p.m.

• Erica Defferding and Sierra Wannamaker were named to the SLC Preseason All-Conference second team. 

• The Cardinals returned 19 players from the 2023 roster, including 12 players who played more than 500 minutes each.  

• Head coach Jake Plant is back for his second season, following a 6-8-2 finish in 2023.  

Scouting the Texans 

• Rylee Low led the Texans in goals last year with four in 1529 minutes played.  

• Mikayla Kendall finished the season with 126 saves in 18 games played. 

• Tarleton was selected to finish eighth in the WAC preseason poll after finishing last season with a 4-12-3 record. 

Scouting the Roadrunners 

• Olivia Alvarez, Sasjah Dade, and Sabrina Hillyer were named to the AAC preseason watch list. 

• Jordan Walker and Sophie Morrin lead the Roadrunners in goals with three each. 

• UTSA was selected to finish eighth in the AAC preseason poll after finishing last season with a 7-7-4 record.
