SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team defeated Northwestern State (NWST) to complete the sweep on Sunday at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B. The Cardinals won the game 5-0 behind a combined complete game shutout from Hunter Hargett and Dave Johnson.
Hargett pitched six innings, allowing no runs on four hits to lower his ERA to 3.64 on the year. Johnson recorded his first save striking out three batters in three innings of work.
After three scoreless innings Luca Boscarino drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Grant Randall later cleared the bases on a two-run single to right center to extend the lead to 3-0 after four.
The Cardinals added a run on a wild pitch in the fifth to stretch the lead to 4-0.
Tony DeJesus capped off the scoring with an RBI single through the left side to bring the final score to 5-0.
UIW travels to Texas State on Tuesday, April 23 to take on the Bobcats for the second time. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
