SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team ended its season at the 2024 Southland Conference Tournament on Saturday morning. The No. 5 Cardinals fell to No. 1 Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, 4-0, in the semifinals after defeating No. 4 New Orleans, 4-1, on Friday.
The Cardinals finished the 2024 season 9-12 overall and 4-3 in SLC play. As the No. 5 seed, heading into the tournament, UIW cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Privateers in the quarterfinals behind doubles wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spot to go up, 1-0.
Isid Hernandez Leon, SLC All-Conference second team selection, took down her opponent first (6-0, 6-2) at the No. 3 line.
Iné Lamprecht followed at the No. 4 spot with a 6-3, 6-2 victory to put the Cardinals up 3-0.
Estefania Gonzalez then battled back after falling 2-3 in the second, she bounced back in the third, 6-0, to clinch the match for UIW to advance to the semifinals.
