Track & Field Competes in California and Texas

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word track and field team had student-athletes compete in three different meets this past week.

The week started off with the distance runners making noise out west in California. At the Leopard Distance Carnival meet, in La Verne, Chris Daniels broke his own school record and became the first Cardinal under nine minutes in the 3,000 steeple. His time of 8:59.81 is the best in the Southland by more 24 seconds. Griffin Neal also broke his own UIW record and hit a regional qualifying mark, with a time of 13:49.14 in the 5,000-meter run.

Back in Texas the Cardinals competed in the Kingsville Cactus Cup. On the women's side two student-athletes won their events. Abbigail Morrow cleared 1.72 meters in the high jump and Alisa Novosad made it over 11 feet 11.75 inches to win the pole vault. The men dominated the sprint events. Corin Burns took first in the 100 with a time of 10.44 seconds and Thomas Gignoux won the 200 in 21.29 seconds. Along with these UIW had 15 other top-three finishes at the Cactus Cup.
