SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team picked up its third sweep of the season, defeating Texas Southern University (TSU), 11-4, on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
The Cardinals controlled the entire game as the offense put up 11 runs in the win. Tony DeJesus drove in UIW's first run on a sacrifice fly in the second, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead after two.
The Tigers tied the game in the third on an RBI double down the right field line.
Ryder Hernandez and Tyler Cowan each drove in a run in the third to put the Cardinals up 3-1.
In the fifth, Dalton Beck scored on a passed ball and Ryan Scott cleared the bases with a two-run shot into left center to extend the Cardinals lead to 6-1.
The Tigers pulled within two after scoring three in the sixth, making the score 6-4. Later in the inning, UIW put up three runs to go up 9-4. DeJesus scored on a wild pitch and Grant Randall scored on an error. Beck then doubled in a run to close out the sixth.
In the eighth, Beck singled in two to bring the final score to 11-4.
The Cardinals head to Austin on Tuesday, March 12 to face the Longhorns. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
