SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team is on a five-game win streak heading into the last full week of regular season play. The Cardinals host their final two home games with Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 6:30 p.m. and New Orleans on Saturday, March 2 at 2 p.m.
UIW
- The Cardinals are sitting solid at fourth place in the current Southland Conference standings with a 10-5 SLC record.
- With a 17-9 overall record, the Cardinals have surpassed last season's win record, marking the winningest season since transitioning to Division I.
- Aliyah Collins (13.1 ppg) and Nina De Leon Negron (10.6 ppg) lead the Cardinal offense. De Leon Negron has 82 assists and 39 steals on the season while averaging 35 minutes per game to command the floor.
- Destiny Terrell and De Leon Negron are a force on the boards, each averaging around seven rebounds per game and a combined 100 offensive rebounds.
- UIW has reclaimed its status as the top defensive team in the conference, holding opponents to just 56 points per game, which is good for 24th in the nation.
- Last game, the Cardinals knocked down an impressive 10 3-pointers, bringing them up to third in the SLC for 3-point FGs made.
SLU
- The Lions are 13-2 in conference and one win behind first-place Lamar.
- When these two teams met last, it was an all-out battle that lasted through three overtimes. SLU came out on top with the 93-86 victory on Feb. 1
- Hailey Giaratano is the lone Lion averaging double digits scoring with 12.2 points per game. She finished with a season-high 27 points against the Cardinals the last time they met.
- Cheyanne Daniels is the third-leading scorer (9 ppg) and the leading rebounder for SLU with 5.4 per contest.
UNO
- New Orleans is tied with Nicholls for the No. 5 spot with a 7-8 Southland Conference record.
- The Privateers are coming off a pair of close losses against Lamar (60-63) and at Southeastern Louisiana (66-69 OT).
- UNO is powered by DeArica Pryor (13.8 ppg), Jayla Kimbrough (10.5 ppg), and Nora Francois (10.1 ppg).
- Francois, the 6-foot-2 center, put up 30 points in UNO's last game against SLU, notching three straight double-doubles.
