SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team lost to Tarleton State, 15-10, on Tuesday afternoon at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B. A three-run homer by the Cardinals in the eighth allowed UIW to come within one entering the ninth before Tarleton pulled away in the ninth.
After falling behind 7-0 in the first the Cardinals got on the board in the second with an RBI double and single. Grant Randall drove in two on a double through the left side and Cameron Caley singled in a run to bring the score to 7-3.
Matt Marlow recorded a sacrifice fly to make the score 7-4.
The Texans added a run in the fifth, but Sterling Sutcliffe pulled UIW within two on a two-run homer to make the score 8-6.
TSU added a run in the seventh and eighth to extend the lead to 10-6. In the home half of the eighth, JD Gregson crushed a three-run homer to pull the Cardinals within one, 10-9.
The Texans scored five in the top of the ninth to pull ahead 15-9. Randall would lead off the ninth with a solo home run to bring the final score to 15-10.
The Cardinals travel to Monroe for a three-game set against the University of Louisiana Monroe this upcoming weekend.
