Women’s Basketball Travels to Louisiana

SAN ANTONIO –  The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team has already secured its spot in the 2024 Southland Conference Tournament and looks to lock down a high seed heading into the last few games of the regular season. The Cardinals play at Nicholls on Thursday, Feb. 22 and at McNeese on Saturday, Feb. 24. 
 
UIW
  • The Cardinals are currently sitting in fourth place with an 8-5 Southland Conference record.
  • Aliyah Collins comes off the bench for the Cardinals, averaging 12.9 points per game.
  • Nina De Leon Negron earned herself Southland Conference Player of the Week after last week's efforts. She finished with a pair of double-doubles, tallying five on the season. De Leon averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds, helping UIW to an undefeated week at home. She leads the team in assists, steals, and rebounds.
  • Destiny Terrell commands a presence in the paint as the second-leading rebounder with almost seven per game, while adding eight points.
  • The Cardinals continue to lead the Southland in offensive rebounds with 13.5 per game. Terrell has 49 total offensive rebounds on the season.
 
NICHOLLS
  • The Colonels are sitting in sixth place in the current SLC rankings with a 6-7 conference record.
  • Last week, Nicholls defeated McNeese and fell in a two-point game (78-80) to New Orleans.
  • Earlier this season the Cardinals and Colonels met in January where Nicholls won 65-59.
  • Forward Lexi Alexander is averaging 13 points and five rebounds with Britiya Curtis adding 10 points per game.
  • The team is second in the league for 3-point field goals, shooting 31 percent from behind the arch.
 
MCNEESE
  • The Cowgirls sit at the bottom of the conference with a record of 0-13. Last week, McNeese fell to Nicholls (67-81) and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (64-78).
  • When the Cardinals and Cowgirls last met toward the end of January, UIW took home the win with a score of 67-55.
  • Emilia Tenbrock leads the team with 15 points per game. Tenbrock has ten 20-plus point games on the season, with a season-high 40 points against Texas A&M – Commerce.
