SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team is set to host Northwestern State University on Friday, December 6 to open Southland Conference Play. The Cardinals and Demons will face off in the afternoon with a 1 p.m. tip. Fans are encouraged to dress in UIW colors for the Military Appreciation / Red Out Game.
UIW
- The Cardinals are 3-4 on the season with wins over Nelson University, Texas Lutheran University and Prairie View A&M – University.
- UIW was picked to finish fifth in the Southland Conference Basketball Preseason Poll.
- Brynn Lusby (8.9), Jorja Elliott (8.7) and Raimi McCrary (8.1) lead the Cardinals in scoring, while Lusby and McCrary are also the leading rebounders for the team with five per game.
- Freshman Lusby has scored in double digits in five games this season and comes off the bench for the Cardinals as the leading scorer and one of the two top rebounders.
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
- The Cardinals are 11-4 all-time against Northwestern State. The last time the pair met was on February 17, 2024 where UIW won, 53-45.
SCOUTING THE DEMONS
- Northwestern State is also 3-4 on the season, defeating Champion Christian College, Arkansas Baptist and Southern – New Orleans.
- The Demons were picked to finish No. 10 in the Southland Conference in the Southland Conference Basketball Preseason Poll.
- Mya Blake is the leading scorer for the Demons, putting up 15 points per game, while adding 31 assists and 17 steals. Vernell Atamah adds 13 points per contest and leads the team with six rebounds per game.
