SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word football team plays its last regular season home game at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.
UIW
- The Cardinals saw their highest ranking of the season yet, coming in at No. 8 in both the Stats Perform Top 25 Poll and the AFCA Coaches Poll.
- With a 4-0 Southland Conference record, UIW holds first place with three conference games left on the year.
- The Cardinals are 6-0 at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium, holding a 11-1 home record over the last two seasons.
- Roy Alexander was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week following an impressive career-high three touchdowns against Houston Christian.
- Fourteen FCS programs have been ranked in every Top 25 poll this season, including UIW as the sole Southland Conference representative. The Cardinals have been active in the rankings for 49-straight weeks, the fifth longest streak behind North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Montana and Montana State.
- For the fourth straight week, UIW maintains its title as the best red-zone defense in the FCS, holding opponents to just 16 scores through 26 attempts. The Cardinal defense is third in the FCS with four defensive touchdowns.
SCOUTING LAMAR
- The Lamar Cardinals are 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the conference play and are currently fourth in the league standings.
- Lamar was on a two-game win streak defeating Texas A&M – Commerce and Northwestern State before narrowly falling to Southeastern Louisiana, 27-30, in overtime last Saturday.
- LU's defense is second in the conference, behind SFA, holding opponents to 22 points per contest, while UIW is averaging 37 points per game.
- Behind Khalan Griffin, the team is first in the SLC with 188 rushing yards per game. Griffin is contributing 115 yards on the ground per contest.
- Quarterback Robert Coleman has tallied 1,260 yards on the season with six interceptions to average 140 yards per game. He's found Sevonne Rhea for five touchdowns this season.
- Ken Savannah has 60 total tackles to go along with seven TFL, three sacks and one pass breakup.
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
- UIW defeated Lamar 17-7 last season on October 28, 2023 and holds the all-time series lead, 6-4.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
- The leading receiver in the FCS, Jalen Walthall, went viral this past week for his headstand touchdown celebration and continues to find the end zone with 12 TDs so far this season.
- Fellow receiver Roy Alexander is No. 14 in the FCS with his seven touchdowns and is third in the conference with Walthall at number one.
- Zach Calzada is second in the FCS for his 24 passing touchdowns and is seventh for his 2,411 passing yards.
- Mister Williams' 11.5 tackles for loss puts him second in the Southland Conference and at No. 20 in the FCS.
