SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team fell in a close 50-61 game against Abilene Christian University on Sunday afternoon.
 
Raimi McCrary recorded a double-double leading the team in both scoring and rebounds with 17 points and 13 boards. Brynn Lusby was the only other Cardinal to score in double figures, adding 14 points off the bench.  
 
The Cardinals struggled out the gates missing their first few shots. However, the UIW defense stood strong and after the first quarter the Cardinals only trailed 8-10. Raimi McCrary led the way scoring half of the team's first quarter points.
 
The second quarter was a different story as the UIW offense exploded. The Cards went a perfect three-for-three from three, Shiho Isono hit two of them. Raimi once again led the team scoring five in the period, along with Myra Bell who also had five. UIW once again limited the ACU scoring attack holding them to just 12 points and went into the locker room with a 31-22 lead.
 
The momentum swung back in the Wildcats favor in the third. ACU only made one substitution and outscored the Cardinals 24-9 and retook the lead 46-40 heading into the final 10 minutes.
 
The two teams played a closely contented final quarter. Each squad knocked down five shots from the field. UIW was never able to cut down the ACU lead and lost by a final score of 61-53.
