SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team split their road conference games this weekend. The Cardinals knocked off Stephen F. Austin (SFA) 1-0 on Friday and fell to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 1-0 on Sunday. 

Game 1: UIW 1, SFA 0  

Sophomore Erica Defferding held strong in the first half, recording three saves while SFA was able to fire off nine shots. The score was level after 45 and in the second half, the Lumberjacks continued to pressure firing off 11 second half shots to just two for UIW. The Cardinals were able to capitalize on one of those shots in the 81st minute as freshman Peri Olmo slid a ball across the 18-yard box to UIW's leading scorer Sierra Wannamaker who buried it into the right side of the net. The Cardinal's backline held strong in the final 10 minutes, and UIW left Nacogdoches with a quality road win. 

Game 2: UIW 0, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 1 

Sunday's contest was even in the first half with A&M-Corpus Christi firing off six shots and UIW having five. The difference came early in the first half when the Islanders drew a foul in the box and Morgan Westbury stepped up and scored from the penalty spot in the eighth minute. The PK proved to be the difference as the Islanders held on in the second half and the Cardinals dropped their final contest of the road trip.  

UIW is back in action Friday, October 25th for Senior Day at 7 p.m. against Texas A&M University – Commerce at Gayle & Tom Benson Stadium.
