SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team continued Ohio Valley Conference play in San Antonio with games against the topped ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) on Thursday and Lindenwood on Sunday afternoon.
 
Coming into Thursday's matchup SIUE was had a perfect 5-0 record in OVC play. The first half was a tightly contested battle. Both keepers made two saves, the Cardinals got off five shots compared to four for SIUE, but the Cougars racked up five corner kicks and UIW earned just two. At the end of 45 minutes the two teams were all tied up at 0-0.
 
UIW turned up the aggression in the second half getting off 10 shots and earning five corners. The Cardinals also got after it on the defensive end which could've cost them as UIW was called four seven fouls in the half. However, there would be no breakthrough for either team and after a the full 90 the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
 
Sunday's game was key to OVC standings as UIW was ranked No. 5 and Lindenwood was No. 4. Things looked bleak for the Cardinals in the first half after a red card was given following a Lions goal. UIW was able to stay strong through the first half but went into the break down a player and a goal.
 
Ten minutes into the second half Lindenwood added another goal pushing their lead to 2-0. Just as he always does 
Peleg Armendariz continued to play tough and scored in the 61
st minute of the game giving the Cardinals life. 15 minutes later 
Sello Diphoko fired a ball to the top right corner to bring the game to two all.
 
UIW found themselves in trouble down the stretch giving up a penalty kick with four minutes remaining. The standout goalkeeper, 
Alejandro De La Torre, who has played every minute of the season in goal for UIW made the save to keep things level.
 
Neither team scored in the final minutes and the Cardinals walked away with another draw, 2-2.
