SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's volleyball team is set to host two matches this week. On Thursday, the Cardinals host the Vaqueros at 6 p.m. for the home opener. On Saturday at 1 p.m., Northwestern State and UIW face off in the McDermott Center.    

UIW  

• The Cardinals are 7-5 (0-2) after dropping two conference games last week.  

• Risa Sena leads the Cardinals in kills with 148 while hitting .279 percent. Kade Thomas leads the team with 46 blocks. 

• Calissa Allison is in the top five for UIW  in kills (90), assists (234), aces (13), and digs (132W). 

• UIW was selected to finish eighth in the Southland Conference preseason poll but sits in tenth place.  

Scouting the Vaqueros 

• UTRGV enters the week 4-7 (0-1) on the year following a conference loss to SFA last week. The Vaqueros enter the matchup on a five-match losing streak.  

• Ilana De Assis leads the Vaqueros in kills with 159. De Assis is also in the top five on the team in digs (104) and aces (12).  

• UTRGV sits in seventh place in the conference standings with a 0-1 conference record.  

Scouting the Lady Demons 

• NWST enters the contest 6-5 (1-1) on the year after splitting last week's conference matchups.  

• Reaghan Thompson leads the team in kills with 157. Thompson is also in the top five on the team in assists (6), aces (11), digs (118), and blocks (24).  

• The Lady Demons sit in sixth place in the conference standings with a 1-1 conference record.
