SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word football team rolled past McNeese State University, 30-17, on Saturday night en route to the fourth-straight win and an undefeated (2-0) Southland Conference start.

UIW attacked the McNeese defense all night, finishing with 91 plays while going 6-for-6 on fourth-down conversions.

The Cardinals found themselves in field goal range with a chance to strike first but missed the 37-yard field goal giving the Cowboys the first score of the game on a 36-yard touchdown pass just under two minutes left in the first quarter (7-0).

UIW settled for a field goal, once more, five minutes into the second quarter, this time clearing the posts and cutting the Cowboy lead to 7-3.

Zach Calzada turned on the jets following a broken play and powered his way into the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown run and the first UIW lead of the game with four minutes left in the half (10-7).

The Cowboys and Cardinals traded field goals with McNeese tying up the game at 10-10 for only about a minute of play before UIW's Brack Peacock secured the 30-yard FG to reclaim the 13-10 lead.

UIW's offense was quick to get things moving in the second half as Calzada ran for 12 yards, setting up the Cardinals in the red zone for Dekalon Taylor to cut through the middle for a touchdown (20-10).

Quarterback Richard Torres subbed into the game midway through the third and threw a dart to Jalen Walthall for a 28-yard touchdown and the 26-10 advantage.

McNeese broke out for a 38-yard TD run to the house (27-17) to end the third down 10.

The Cardinals extended their lead in the fourth following a 28-yard field goal for the 30-17 victory over the Cowboys.
