Women’s Basketball Travels to SLU and UNO

SAN ANTONIO –  The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team goes on the road this week to face Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday and the University of New Orleans on Saturday.
 
UIW
  • The Cardinals have won four of their last five Southland Conference games. The most recent win was a 77-49 victory over Houston Christian University this past Saturday.
  • UIW's 4-3 SLC record puts the Cardinals fourth in the latest conference standings, under Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, Lamar, and Southeastern.
  • The Cardinals moved back up the national rankings, sitting at No. 27 in the NCAA for scoring defense as they hold opponents to 55.8 points per contest.
  • On the boards, UIW is the conference leader in offensive rebounds with 13.2 per game.
  • Aliyah Collins comes off the bench averaging 12.2 points per game for the Cardinals. Floor leader, Nina De Leon Negron is also scoring in double-digits with 10.1 points per contest to go along with her 54 assists and 29 steals on the season. In the last four games, De Leon Negron has averaged 10 rebounds per game with two double-doubles.
  • Destiny Terrell is the team's leading rebounder with 7.1 and 39 total offensive boards.  
 
SLU
  • Southeastern Louisiana is tied for first in the Southland Conference with a 7-1 record.
  • The SLC is full of defensive-minded teams as the Lions are ranked No. 19 in the country for scoring defense. They hold opponents to 55.2 points per contest.
  • On the offensive side, SLU is shooting 40 percent from the field, five percent higher than their opponents.
  • Senior Hailey Giaratano is the Lions' leading scorer with 12.3 points per game.
 
UNO
  • The Privateers are 7-12 overall and 4-4 in Southland Conference play with wins over Texas A&M – Commerce, Nicholls, HCU, and McNeese.
  • New Orleans is second in the conference for team free throw percentage, shooting 72 percent from the line behind 376 attempts.
  • Defensively, UNO is third in the SLC for steals with nine per game.
  • DeArica Pryor is putting up 11 points per contest as the leading scorer while Zoe Cooper is the leading rebounder with five a game.
