SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team is set to host Houston Christian University on Saturday, January 27 at 2 p.m. for Alumni Weekend and the Faculty Appreciation Game.
UIW
- The Cardinals are 3-3 in Southland Conference play and 10-7 overall with recent wins over McNeese State University. UIW has won three out of the last four games played.
- UIW dominates the boards, allowing its opponents only 33 rebounds per game, while the Cardinals combined for 37 total rebounds per contest. With 13.5 offensive rebounds per game, the Cardinals lead the SLC.
- The Cardinal defense continues to receive national attention, sitting at No. 30 in the latest NCAA stats while holding opponents to 56.2 points per game.
- Aliyah Collins leads the team in scoring with 12.4 points per game. Nina De Leon Negron is adding 10 points and six rebounds per contest with 48 assists and 28 steals on the season.
- Destiny Terrell is the third leading scorer (8.9) and the leading rebounder with 7.3 per game. She's pulled down 39 offensive rebounds so far this season.
HCU
- The Huskies have yet to win a conference game, going 0-7 and 5-13 overall.
- HCU has a strong presence in the paint, notching four blocked shots per game as a team.
- In the Huskies' last game, HCU fell in a tight 53-51 game against the undefeated Southeastern Louisiana Lions.
- N'Denasija Collins (13.9) and Kennedy Wilson (10.7) lead the team in scoring while Collins is also the leading rebounder with 7.5 per contest.
- Amy Cotton, Jo Oly, Yasmin Butler, and Elizabeth Matadi have all accumulated ten-plus blocks on the season.
