SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team travels to Denton, Texas on Friday, September 8 to take on the University of North Texas at 7 p.m. The Cardinals then return home on Sunday, September 10 to host Sam Houston State University at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium at 3 p.m. Admission is free, and the first 50 fans will receive an exclusive Red Out T-shirt.

The Cardinals are 3-1-1 to start the 2023 season. Last week, UIW finished in a draw against New Mexico State, 0-0. In her first collegiate start, Freshman goalkeeper Erica Defferding totaled four saves. On Sunday, UIW was handed its first loss of the season, losing to UTEP 1-0. Defferding got the start at goalkeeper and finished with three saves.

North Texas is 5-1 this season, with wins against conference foes Northwestern State and Texas A&M Commerce.

Summer Brown leads the Mean Green with five goals. UNT has two players with three assists each to lead the team.

UNT was selected to finish third in the west division of the American Athletic Conference after finishing last season 13-5-3.

SHSU is 1-3-1 this season, with a tie to Texas A&M - Corpus Christi and losses to Lamar and HCU.
