Box Score 2 SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team tied with New Mexico State 0-0 Thursday evening and dropped their first game of the season to UTEP 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. Both games were played on the road.  
Game 1: UIW 0, NMSU 0 
The Cardinals battled to a 0-0 draw in a back-and-forth game that featured two strong defenses. 
UIW finished the evening with seven shots, four in the first and three in the second half. Abigail Wilson and Addison Rodriguez recorded the two Cardinal shots on goal.  
In her first collegiate start, Freshman Erica Defferding played all 90 minutes, securing four saves in the draw. 
Game 2: UIW 0, UTEP 1 
UIW lost their first game of the season to UTEP in a close 1-0 defeat. The game remained close throughout with a goal in the 72nd minute being the difference. The Cardinals would continue to apply pressure to the Miners defense until the final whistle blew. 
The Cardinals finished with 10 shots, five in the first and five in the second half. Five different Cardinal starters each picked up one shot on goal. 
Goalkeeper Erica Defferding played all 90 minutes allowing just one goal while also securing three saves in the loss.
