Men's Soccer Drops Two Close Games

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team fell by a score of 2-1 in both of their games this week. First to Santa Clara on Thursday and then to Oral Roberts Sunday afternoon.
 
Game 1: UIW 1, Santa Clara 2
 
The Cardinals came out of the gates swinging scoring their first, first half goal of the season in the seventh minute when a corner kick from Danny Elizalde landed at the feet of Paco Segura.
 
UIW remained solid in defense for the remainder of the half holding on to their 1-0 lead.
 
Halfway through the second half Santa Clara capitalized on a free kick just outside of the box. Adem Hamdaoua took the free kick, tying the game at one all.
 
A few minutes later Hamdaoua found his spot again, scored his second goal of the game to give the Broncos the lead and ultimately the win.
 
Game 2: UIW 1, Oral Roberts 2
 
The second game started similar to the first. In the eight minute Joel Perez found Segura and his finished it off giving the Cardinals an early lead.
 
The game was tied at one after the Cardinals gave up an own goal in the 58th minute.
 
Everything changed when Timothy Ospina received his second yellow card a few minutes later and the Cards had to play a man down for the remainder of the game.
 
UIW battled through the adversity but gave up a goal in the 88th minute and fell by a final score of 2-1.
