Box Score 2 SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team went 1-0-1 this week in their games against Nebraska Omaha (2-1) on Thursday and St. Bonaventure (1-1) on Sunday.
Game 1: UIW 2, Nebraska Omaha 1
The Cardinals fell behind early after the Mavericks scored on a free kick from Sokol Ymeraj, which came from a handball yellow card given to the UIW goalkeeper
Hugo Constant.
The Cardinals were able to respond early in the second half when
Erick Rios slid the ball past the defense to
Edgar Soto for a goal.
In the 71
st minute of the game
Sello Diphoko launched a 45-yard shot to give UIW a 2-1 lead.
The Cardinals were able to hold that lead throughout the rest of the game.
Game 2: UIW 1, St. Bonaventure 1
The Cardinals and the Bonnies were locked in a tight game through the first half. Neither team had scored but UIW had eight shots and St. Bonaventure had three.
In the 68
th minute the game Andres Javitt from St. Bonaventure found himself with the ball in front of goal after a deflection off of a UIW player. Javitt scored to put the Bonnies up one.
The Cardinals quickly responded and in the 69
th minute Peleg Armendraiz headed the ball into the back of the net on a pass from
Miles Merritt.
The teams went back and forth for the final 20 minutes, each getting shots on goal. However the match ended with the score tied at one.
