SAN ANTONIO- The University of the Incarnate Word softball team played Tennesse State on Tuesday afternoon. Though the game was pushed to extra innings, it ended in a draw at 3-3. This was the last test before the Cardinals hit the road for their first conference matchup against Nicholls this weekend. 

The Tigers got on the board first, but UIW was quick to answer back. With two outs Kendall McGary stepped up to the plate for her second at-bat of the day. The solid hitter slashed a home run way over the left side of the field to make the game 1-1. It was McGary's second of the season and the first of two home runs the Cardinals would score.  

UIW suffered a bit of a scoring drought as the second run didn't come until the bottom of the sixth inning. By that time the Cardinals pitching staff had gone through three pitchers in the tight played innings. When it was UIW's turn on the offensive end in the sixth, Victoria Altamirano slammed a huge double into center field to put herself into scoring position. Two Cardinal hitters came up behind her for sacrifice hits as ultimately Ryleigh Mata's sacrifice fly earned her an RBI as Altamirano ran in. The game was tied as the two teams entered the seventh. 

No scores came in the seventh and thus the game was forced to an eighth. On the first pitch of the inning a Tiger homered to take the lead 3-2. Aaliyah Garcia then entered the circle for UIW and was able to hold TSU as the Tigers tried to juice the bases with no outs.  

Just like the Tigers had done, the first UIW batter they faced hit a home run. For her second hit of the day Altamirano swung one deep into left field to tie the game at three. Unfornatuely, because of external factors the game had to end in a tie 3-3. The highly competitive match was just what the Cardinals needed before their start to conference this weekend.
