COLLEGE STATION - The University of the Incarnate Word softball team dropped a 6-0 contest to the No. 21 Texas A&M Aggies on Wednesday night in College Station, Texas. This was the start of UIW's heavily slated week, facing two Top 25 teams in four days. The Cardinals host No.2 Oklahoma State this Saturday.
UIW vs TAMU (0-6)
The Aggies' bats were hot, scoring a single run at the beginning of the bottom of the first to set the pace of the game. UIW tried to come back, registering the first hit in the top of the second. Kendall McGary, one of the most consistent Cardinals this season, launched a double to center field that advanced Avalon Sanchez to third base. With runners in scoring position, Texas A&M's defense was on high alert and forced UIW to leave them on base after Julia Cordon flew out and sent UIW back to the dugout.
The next hit for the Cardinals came in the top of the fourth inning as Aaliyah Garcia singled to left field. Though again, UIW was unable to capitalize on the play. Throughout the game, only four Cardinals were able to score a hit through the tough Aggie defense.
Annie Gunther was accredited for the loss, pitching 3.1 innings with a total of 51 pitches thrown. Natalie Myers and Samantha Portillo both saw action in the circle and each tallied a single strikeout.
Now, the Cardinals will get ready to face nationally ranked No. 2 Oklahoma State in a double header starting on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
