Softball Drops Series to No. 2 OSU

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team dropped the series to the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State. The powerhouse school is currently No.2 on the latest ESPN/ USA Top 25 polls. UIW will now prepare for a midweek game on Tuesday night against Texas Southern in Houston, Texas.

Game 1 (0-11)

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Cowgirls took the win in five innings. After a stellar fifth inning offensive show by OSU, the Cardinals struggled to put their own runs on the board.

Only one UIW player was able to notch hits at the plate. Aaliyah White hit two strong singles to put herself on base and go 2-2 in the game. White also grabbed two outs to complement her stats for the first game.

UIW saw four different changes in the circle, though only three pitchers played. Annie Gunther pitched the first four innings before coming back again in the top of the fifth after Natalie Myers and Madison Floyd each had a turn. In her performance, Gunther nabbed two strikeouts and walked three. This was Gunther's eighth start this season.

Game 2 (0-10)

Game two also saw three different pitchers in the circle for the Cardinals. Maddy Blake held her own for 2.2 innings as Samantha Portillo started the game for UIW. For the last inning, Aaliyah Garcia switched from fielding to pitching to end the Cardinals defensive push.

UIW again saw some struggles at the plate. With the first hit not coming until the bottom of the fourth, the Cardinals left a total of two runners on base and had a team, two strikeouts.

Dariane Cram recorded the hit for UIW after striking a single down the left side of the field. Ryleigh Mata reached on a fielder's choice right after her to put two Cardinals on base, but unfortunately UIW was unable to capitalize on the play.

The Cardinals fell, 10-0 to the Cowgirls for the second game of the series.
