WESTMONT, Ill. – The University of the Incarnate Word artistic swimming team finished third overall at the U.S. Collegiate Championships this week.
The meet got started on Thursday, March 23 with prelims for solo, duet, and trio competitions. The Cardinals finished the day securing three spots in the finals for trios and duets to go along with
Nour Shamala and
Greta Hampson heading into the finals ranked in the top 10 for their solo routines.
On day two, the student-athletes competed in technical competitions. Once again UIW performed well with many swimmers placing high. Five Cardinals finished in the top 10 of Figure B, led by Erandi Agurrie Miranda taking first overall with 73.6871 points. She was followed closely by Sofia Puchiak, Mireia Segura, and Claire Emer who placed third, fourth, and fifth.
Hannah Ray rounded out the group finishing ninth.
Tabatha Mata also earned points for UIW with a sixth-place finish in the Figure C competition.
On the last day of competition, the Cardinals prepared to perform their final routines for all categories. The trio of
Elizabeth Battista,
Camryn Hooeym, and Abbygayle Remmers finished fifth just ahead of their teammates
Paige Areizaga,
Lauren Bell, and
Greta Hampson who took sixth. The duo of
Mikaelle Gauthier and Abbygayle Remmers finished fourth in the duet competition and
Nour Shamala shined once again, finishing third in the solo competition for the Cardinals.
To close out the competition the Cardinals had two outstanding performances as both UIW team routines finished top five, taking third and fourth place. As a team the Cardinals scored 76 points, finishing third in the overall team competition.
