Natchitoches, La – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball to Northwestern State University, 81-64, on Wednesday night, bringing an end to the 2022-23 season for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals fell behind early as Northwestern State scored the first six points of the game. However, the Cardinals were able to force seven turnovers in the first 10 minutes to get back into it. Davante Dennis hit a midrange jump shot to give UIW its first lead of the game 20-18.
The Demons responded with a 14-4 run retaking the lead 33-22, with eight of those points coming from Emareyon McDonald. Northwestern State held onto that lead through the first half and the Cardinals went into the break down, 43-32.
Coming out of the half, the two teams battled back and forth, each team scoring 18 points and keeping the Northwestern lead at 11. The difference was the turnover battle as the Cardinals turned it over 10 times compared to only five for the Demons. In the end UIW fell by a final score of 64-81.
