SAN ANTONIO – On Thursday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m, the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team is hosting Lamar University for the Blackout for Black History/Equality and Inclusion game. Then, on Saturday, Feb. 11, the Cardinals face Houston Christian University at 2 p.m. for the Alumni Game. Legends Weekend takes place Feb. 10-11 as all alumni, past coaches and staff, and their families are invited back to celebrate the proud tradition of UIW basketball.
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
- The Cardinals fell to both teams earlier this season, at HCU 71-52 and at Lamar 72-52.
- UIW is down 13-2 all-time against the Lamar Cardinals and 15-3 against the Huskies.
UIW
- As a team, the Cardinals are fourth in the conference with 184 steals. Nina De Leon Negron is second in the SLC this season with 45 to average 2.14 per game.
- De Leon Negron is also fourth in the conference with 67 assists on the season while leading the team in scoring with 11.1 points per contest.
- Shooting 59-for-67 from the free throw line, Aliyah Collins leads the SLC with an 88.1 free throw percentage.
LAMAR CARDINALS
- Lamar is on a two-game win streak after defeating McNeese (79-48) and Northwestern State (75-57) last week to move into fourth place in the conference standings (6-5).
- Sabria Dean (14.4), Akasha Davis (13.0), and Portia Adams (11.1) are all averaging double digits for LU.
- Davis is also leading the team in rebounds with seven per contest to go along with her 11 blocks this season.
HUSKIES
- HCU also went 2-0 last week, beating Northwestern State (69-58) and Nicholls (68-55).
- N'Denasija Collins (14.3) and Julija Vujakovic (10.5) lead the Huskies in scoring.
- Collins (7.3) and Marilyn Nzoiwu (6.7) are the two leading rebounders for HCU.
