Men's Basketball Returns Home to Face Lamar & HCU

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team is set for two games this week. First against Lamar in our black out for black history month on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and later against HCU on Saturday at 4 p.m. where we will honor our alumni during legends weekend.

FOLLOW ALONG

UIW defeated both HCU and Lamar on the road earlier this year setting the team up for a four-game win streak. The Cards split their games last week keeping them in sixth place in the conference with a 11-13 overall record and 5-6 in conference. As a team, UIW has the third ranked defense in the SLC only allowing 72.9 points per game. They also have the third most steals in the conference with 202 this season averaging 8.5 per game. Stephon Payne III has been a standout on the defensive end having the second most blocks in the Southland so far, sending away 22 shots this season. The Cardinals have been outstanding from the free throw line shooting just under 75 percent from the stripe, they are led by Jonathan Cisse who is knocking down nearly 90 percent.

Lamar is currently eighth in the SLC going 7-17 so far with a 3-8 conference record. Similar to the UIW Cardinals, the Lamar Cardinals defense has been strong with 80 blocks and holding opponents to a conference best 44 percent from the field.

The Huskies on the other hand been showing out on offense. HCU has the highest field goal percentage (46%) in the conference and is scoring the second most points (78.3 ppg). Even with this electric offense the Huskies are 7-17 and sitting at seventh in the conference.
