The Cardinals split their games last week, losing a close one to Northwestern State on Thursday 72-66 while defeating Texas A&M – Commerce on Saturday, 79-75, to keep the Cardinals in playoff contention. Currently sitting in eighth place, UIW will secure a spot in the conference tournament with a win over the Demons.
Jonathan Cisse averaged 24 points last week and scored a season-high 26 in Saturday's win.
Stephon Payne III, the conference leader in blocks, added four more to his total (36) last week.
The Demons solidified their spot in second place going into the tournament after beating UIW and falling to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi in what turned out to be the regular season championship game, last week. Northwestern State is strong on both sides of the ball. The Demons have the number one ranked defense in the SLC only allowing 72.3 points per game. They also have the number one scorer in the Southland, Demarcus Sharp, who is averaging 18.9 points per game and was named the Southland Player of the week for the fourth time earlier this week.
