SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team looks to extend its four-game win streak with two matches this week. First on the road at Texas Tech University and then at the McDermott Center hosting St. Edward's University for a 2 p.m. tip on Saturday, Dec. 16.
UIW
- The Cardinals started off the week with a 57-42 victory over Tarleton State on Sunday afternoon, improving to a 5-2 overall record. Destiny Terrell finished with 16 points and seven rebounds on the day.
- UIW's defense leads the conference, allowing opponents only 50 points per game as well as the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the Southland.
- Aliyah Collins and Nina De Leon Negron continue to lead the Cardinals in points, assists, and steals. Collins is averaging 10.9 points with 21 assists and 13 steals. De Leon Negron is putting up 10.5 points per contest with 16 assists and 14 steals on the season while averaging 4.8 rebounds.
Texas Tech
- The Red Raiders are undefeated with a 10-0 start. Texas Tech narrowly defeated Tarleton 70-63, the same team whom UIW defeated this last Sunday (57-42).
- Bailey Maupin, Jasmine Shavers, and Kilah Freelon are scoring double digits for the Red Raiders. Maupin and Shavers are averaging 15 points per game, while Freelon is adding 10 points and seven rebounds per contest.
- Texas Tech is currently tied for first in the Big 12 standings, sharing the spot with TCU and Texas.
St. Edward's
- The Hilltoppers are 4-5 on the season and 2-2 in Lone Star Conference play. The four wins included Huston Tillotson University, Eastern New Mexico University, Southwestern University, and Cameron University.
- Three student-athletes lead the Hilltoppers with double-digit scoring Janiah Perkins (14.3), Bailey Featherstone (11.8), and Jayda Ruffus-Milner (10.1).
- This contest will be counted as an exhibition game for St. Edward's.
