SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team travels to Texas Christian University for a 12 p.m. tip on Wednesday, November 15. The Cardinals then head back to San Antonio to host the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) at the McDermott Center on Sunday, November 19 at 2 p.m.
UIW
- The Cardinals are 1-1 on the season with a home-opener win over Our Lady of the Lake University last Tuesday and a narrow 59-52 loss against New Mexico State University on Sunday.
- The defense-minded team has held its first two opponents to an average of just 49.5 points per contest.
- Several have contributed to the Cardinal offense with Aliyah Collins leading the way. Collins is averaging 10 points and has five steals on the season with seven assists. Nina De Leon Negron is adding 9.5 points per contest and Jorja Elliott has 7.5 ppg and 13 rebounds through the first two games.
HORNED FROGS
- TCU is undefeated with a 3-0 start to the season. The Horned Frogs have downed Oral Roberts, Texas A&M – Kingsville and Rice University.
- Madison Conner is averaging an impressive 23.7 points per game, with season-high 30 points in the season opener against ORU. She's notched a double-double in two of the three games, averaging nine rebounds per contest.
- Center, Sedona Price leads the team on the boards, averaging a double-double with 16.3 points to go along with 11.3 rebounds. She also adds six blocks on the season.
VAQUEROS
- UTRGV started the season with a trip to Puerto Rico playing two exhibition games against Hatillo (W; 72-52) and Bayamon (W; 77-44). The Vaqueros have since been on a three-game losing streak. First an exhibition match against St. Mary's University where they lost 70-64 followed by losses to Texas Tech and Florida International. The Vaqueros play Texas State this Friday before facing the Cardinals.
- Arianna Sturdivant and Iyana Dorsey are dual offensive threats, both averaging 13 points per game. Sturdivant, the junior guard, is also averaging four rebounds for UTRGV.
- Mele Kailahi and Charlotte O'Keefe are also adding 11 and 10 points respectfully.
