SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team swept its conference matchup against Nicholls State in Thibodeaux, Louisiana. This was the Cardinals first conference win of the season after going 0-4 in their first slated matchups.
After a dominating performance by Risa Sena, the Cardinals connected on both sides of the court to find their groove against the Colonels. Sena led both teams with an impressive stat line of 16 kills on 23 total attempts, two blocks, and six digs. In the match, Sena posted her second-highest attacking percentage of 60.
In sets one and two UIW completed 16 kills to overtake any momentum from Nicholls. Leading the whole time in each of the sets, the Cardinals cleaned up on potential errors and let the flow of the game come to them. In set three they went down for a couple of points, but after back-to-back kills by Audrey Patton and Kyla Malone the Cardinals never lost the lead again.
Finley Evans finished the match with eight kills and Kade Thomas added another seven kills of her own. Patton totaled 11 digs to lead both teams defensively.
