Football Hosts Texas A&M – Commerce for Pink Out Game

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word football team is set to host Texas A&M University–Commerce on Saturday, October 14 for a 4 p.m. kick-off. The Cardinals look to extend their 14-0 win streak at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.

  • The Cardinals once again moved up the rankings to No. 6 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 7 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25.
  • After this past weekend, the Cardinal defense leads the nation for defensive touchdowns with one fumble return TD and two interception return TDs for three total so far this season.
  • With 317 yards per game, UIW's offense is second in the nation for passing offense. The Cardinals average 469 total yards per game to rank sixth in the nation.
  • UIW is ranked tenth in the nation for scoring defense, allowing only 16.8 points per game.
 
SCOUTING THE LIONS
  • Texas A&M – Commerce picked up its first win last weekend in the conference opener against McNeese. The Lions won 41-10 over the Cowboys at Memorial Stadium where Head Coach Clint Dolezel secured his first career win.
  • Reggie Branch is averaging 62.25 rushing yards per game while Ra'veion Hargrove leads the way with two touchdowns.
  • Quarterback Josh Magana has thrown 586 yards for the Lions, including seven touchdowns while averaging 117.20 yards per game.
  • Keith Miller is the leading receiver with three touchdowns on the season.
 
LAST TIME THEY MET
  • The Lions are in their second season as a Division I football program. Last year, the Cardinals won 35-7 in Commerce.
  • When both teams were in Division II, the Lions and Cardinals faced off three times, with UIW winning all three matches.
 
PLAYERS TO WATCH
  • Steven Parker continues to lead the FCS in tackles for loss with 11 total for 2.2 per contest.
  • Wide Receiver Brandon Porter is currently third in the nation for receiving yards with 558 total.
  • Quarterback Zach Calzada is fourth in the nation for total offense with 1,580 so far this season.
  • Jarrell Wiley leads the running back core, averaging 40 rushing yards per game. Both Timothy Carter and Tre Siggers have recorded two touchdowns each.
  • Tylan Foster leads the Cardinals in tackles with 36 total (13 solo), while Tre Richardson has notched two interceptions and two pass breakups.
