Men’s Soccer Earns First OVC Win

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team earned their first Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) game in school history, 3-2, over Chicago State Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals also tied with Houston Christian 3-3 Thursday night.

GAME 1: UIW 3, TRINITY 3

The Cardinals fell behind early in the game giving up two goals in the first 35 minutes of the game. UIW was able to quickly respond, scoring two goals of their own, one by Edu Perez and the second by Brady Drozdowski, in the final five minutes of the half to tie the game 2-2 going into the half.

The second half was intense, in only the first 10 minutes of the half there were four yellow cards and a red given to the teams. The Cardinals were then forced to play a man down for the remainder of the game.

Despite being a man down UIW still found a way to score. Peleg Armendariz found the ball off of a deflection on a corner kick and finished it giving the Cards the 3-2.

Two more red cards were given, one to each team and UIW was now playing with nine players against HCU's 10.

In the eightieth minute of the game the Huskies scored once again to tie the game at three, that score would hold for the final 10 minutes of the game.

GAME 2: UIW 3, CHICAGO STATE 2

The first half of the Sunday afternoon game was not very action packed. Each team had a few shots on goal but no one was able to finish.

In the second half the Cardinals offense exploded. Edu, Armendariz, and Sello Diphoko all scored in the first 15 minutes, the Cardinals had control of the game now up 3-0. Later, in the seventy-fourth minute of the game CSU scored their first goal of the game. About 30 seconds later they followed it up with another making the score 3-2 with 15 minutes remaining.

The Cougars had one more shot on goal that was saved by Hugo Constant and UIW won the game, earning their first OVC win, 3-2.
