Five Student-Athletes Named Bluebloods All-Americans

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word football team had five student-athletes named to the 2022 Bluebloods FCS All-American Team, the second-most selections of all FCS teams. Lindsey Scott Jr. and Darion Chafin were named to the first team, Taylor Grimes and Nash Jones made the second team and Kelechi Anyabelechi earned third-team honors.
 
Scott finished the season with a 70.93 completion percentage on 322 of 454 passes with 60 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. The Walter Payton Award finalist had an average of 334.7 through the air but also got the job done on the ground. Scott rushed for 712 yards this season and 11 touchdowns averaging just over 50 yards per game.
 
Chafin averaged 88.86 receiving yards per game and pulled in 18 touchdowns. He had a season-high three touchdowns against Furman in the second round of the FCS Playoffs and picked up a record-setting 262 yards at Nevada.
 
Grimes totaled 15 touchdowns this season, averaging 87.21 yards per game. He had a season-high three touchdowns against McNeese and 122 reception yards against Faulkner. He tallied at least one touchdown in 10 of his 14 games played.
 
Nash Jones helped lead an offensive line with the best-rushing offense in the Southland Conference, getting 2,412 yards and 23 touchdowns. The UIW offensive line also only gave up a conference-leading 15 sacks all season.
 
Anyalebechi led the Cardinals in total tackles with 114 making 65 solo and 49 assisted. He was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award and also accumulated 10 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, three pass breakups, two QB hurries, two fumble recoveries, and three touchdowns. Anyalebechi finished with a season-high 16 tackles in the FCS quarterfinal game against Sacramento State.
